Day 8 - Merzouga - Midelt

sunny 37 °C

13 July

No one slept well in the desert, don’t believe everything you hear about the desert being cool at night - this is not always so. We showered at the nearby accommodation and jumped in the van. What welcome respite this was: a sleepable, air-conditioned space. After a long, somnambulic ride we arrived in Midelt, a nowhere place and booked into a nowhere hotel. Stained cream carpet was none-too-subtly disguised with worn rugs and no attempt at all was made to disguise the broken window in the bar area but the beds were comfortable and air-conditioning worked. Unfortunately though, the plumbing didn’t. This was bad news for the half of our group with diarrhoea. By the next morning, I feared for the safety of our tour guide.
